Thank you for your posting about Expressive Portraits. I am glad to hear the you enjoyed the article from Watercolor Artist; I thought that they did a very good job describing parts of the book.

I haven't painted a lot of children because I am concerned about making them too sweet and I admire you for taking on the task!

Today I began another portrait, we will see where it goes! That is the fun of it!

The New Year

I have included a photo of all the snow we found in Kimberly over the holidays. The skiing was fantastic, truly a winter wonderland! My family and I had a great break and now it is time to get back to work! Yesterday I started a still life in watercolour.

Thank you for the comments Pastel Artist, it is always interesting to hear from someone working in a different medium. Good luck with your portrait. I appreciate the heads up with your problem manoeuvring the web site. I had no problem getting around the web site, perhaps the network was busy when you were surfing?

Expressive Portraits are Here!

Yesterday I received a shipment of my book "Expressive Portraits". It was so exciting to open the box and see all of the books waiting to be distributed to those waiting for a copy!

Commission

I have been working on a large commission for the past few weeks. The process is almost over and those last few marks seem for take the longest! The painting has seven figures in it with quite a complex background; it has been challenging and fun to develop.

Well back to painting to keep warm!

Emily Carr

Thank you to M. Ray for the comment about a life long love of portraits. I hope that you enjoy Expressive Portraits, it should be arriving soon!

Today I went with a fellow artist and friend to the Emily Carr exhibition at the Glenbow museum. The energy of her brush strokes and movement were so strong in many of her paintings. She truly took the West Coast Canadian landscape and told the story in her own visual language! I sat there wondering how she must have felt when she was interpreting the forested landscape.

North Light Book Club

Thank you for the great enthusiasm!

I just saw the Promotional booklet from North Light Books with Expressive Portrait as their book of the month. They really did a great job with the excerpts and explanations. The book should be available now so it is just a matter of waiting for the shipping!

Watercolor Artist

Exciting News! Starting with the February 2008 issue, Watercolor Magic will now be called Watercolor Artist. While the magazine will still celebrate the magic of watercolor, the new name puts the focus where it rightfully belongs, on you, the artist.

Watercolor Artist will feature a section from "Expressive Portraits" and place the painting "Harlequin" on the cover. This is the first time that a painting of mine has appeared on the cover of a magazine!

Jarvis Award

My painting Silk Wrapped was honored with the Jarvis Award in the 2007 Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour Open Water Exhibition.

Yellowknife

November 1st


The Birchwood gallery in Yellowknife held a wonderful opening for my solo show entitled "Diversity of Brush Stroke".


Willow Root sang throughout the evening to really enrich the art experience for everyone who attended.
